Salary: Placement on the Yosemite Community College District salary schedule dependent upon education and experience. 2020-2021 Salary Schedule – $61,366 to $114,555 per year, plus an annual $2,579 stipend for an earned doctorate. New personnel limited to a maximum tenth step initial placement based on previous experience – maximum equals $97,841.

Required Quals Summary
Master’s Degree in history OR Bachelor’s degree in history AND Master’s in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women’s studies, social science, or ethnic studies, OR the equivalent.
Master’s Degree in ethnic studies field OR Master’s Degree in American studies/ethnicity, African-American studies, Asian American Studies, Latino studies, La Raza studies, Central American studies, Latin American studies, cross cultural studies, or race and ethnic relations OR the equivalent OR see interdisciplinary studies.

Job Description Summary
- Teach assigned courses using the course content stated in the approved course outlines and in a manner consistent with the college standards. Assignments may include offerings in the day, evening, or non-traditional (e.g. off-site or Saturday) time slots, and/or distance education.
- Teach college level United States History survey and Ethnic Studies or Area Studies courses (especially in African-American history/studies, Latino history/studies, La Raza studies, cross cultural history/studies, or race and ethnic relations history/studies).
- Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours.
- Participate in curriculum and degree development, evaluation, and revision, including the assessment of student learning outcomes, Course Outline of Record in History and Ethnic Studies or Area Studies.
- Maintain state-of-the-art historical knowledge in field of study through professional organization and/or other research and staff development opportunities.
- Maintain expertise in current teaching and learning methods and develop new instructional materials and techniques to meet the changing needs of students.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff in other departments and colleges and in the community to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success.
- Assist in special projects as they relate to Business, Behavioral and Social Sciences Division.
- Serve in participatory governance work (faculty, division, college, district committees, etc.).
- Work to support marginalized students, especially in collaboration with instructional support programs, such as Umoja and Puente.
- Perform other duties as required by contract and general institutional needs in a timely manner assigned by the Division Dean.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS
- Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move about an office, and reach above and below desk level.
- Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle individual papers, write and take notes.
- Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Visual Requirements: close vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens and do close-up work; ability to adjust focus frequently.
- Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person.
- Emotional/Psychological Factors: ability to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others including some public contact; frequent deadlines and time-limited assignments.
Preference will be given to candidates who:
- Possess a Bachelor’s in History or above AND a Master’s in Ethnic Studies or Master’s in Area Studies (especially in African-American history/studies, Latino history/studies, La Raza studies, cross cultural history/studies, or race and ethnic relations history/studies OR the equivalent).
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching at the community college level.
- Have a broad background in undergraduate and graduate History and Ethnic Studies or Area Studies course work.
- Have at least one year of teaching experience at the community college level in U.S History and from the following fields: African-American history/studies, Latino history/studies, La Raza studies, cross cultural history/studies, or race and ethnic relations history/studies.
- Demonstrate outstanding ability as a teacher to engage students, promote development of critical thinking skills, collaboration, and empathy.
- Have demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within the classroom, no matter the modality used.
- Demonstrate cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity minded practice both within and outside of the classroom.
- Are committed to working collegially and respectfully with other faculty and staff.
- Ability to develop curriculum or services that stress innovation and multicultural and multiethnic emphasis.
- Enthusiasm for the learning process.
- Willingness to experiment with teaching methods to accommodate various student needs.
