Sequoias Community College District is seeking an equity-minded candidate to fill a full-time, tenure-track position in the Ethnic Studies Department beginning August 2023.

Job Duties
• Provide academic instruction to students in Chicana and Chicano Studies and the Introduction to Ethnic Studies and Social Justice Studies courses.
• Teach in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and online classes, at any one of the three campuses as needed.
• Use varied learning and teaching methods appropriate for community college students.
• Assess student performance and progress through various course assignments.
• Perform related teaching duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities related to enrollment, attendance, and student drops.
• Refer students to appropriate support services, programs, and/or resources as needed.
• Contribute to the development and growth of the Ethnic Studies Department and to the growth of its Associate Degree for Transfer.
• Regularly collaborate with Ethnic Studies faculty to assess and revise measurable student performance indicators for collecting and reporting data on Student Learning Outcomes as needed for each course.
• Collaborate on department initiatives, program review, program and student learning outcomes development, and assessment to improve student learning.
• Satisfy faculty professional responsibilities.
 
Assignments may include evening classes and teaching at any of the Sequoias Community College District campuses: Visalia, Hanford and/or Tulare. Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.
 
Other responsibilities include maintenance of office hours, participation in department and/or division responsibilities, and the willingness to create and participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity, which is respectful of diversity Districtwide.
 
Qualifications
The candidate must meet the following criteria:
Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook. All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university. The minimum qualifications for this discipline are as follows:
 
• Master's in Chicano Studies OR
• Master's in the Ethnic Studies field OR
• A master's in American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian-American Studies, or African-American Studies.
• See interdisciplinary studies AND
• Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, which pursuant to Title 5 §53022, is a core system competency and job requirement.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
• Proven capacity to teach Ethnic Studies courses, particularly in Chicana and Chicano Studies, with an interdisciplinary, intersectional, and culturally responsive approach to students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, experiences, and identities, including underprepared and non-traditional students.
• Commitment to creating positive racially conscious intellectual spaces and providing support for students of color, women, LGBTQIA and historically marginalized groups, through teaching and advocacy.
• Evidence of an ongoing pedagogical and professional dedication to anti-racism, equity, inclusion, community organizing, and social justice.
• Create student service-learning outcomes to apply classroom learning through civic engagement assignments that service the college and/or the greater community.
• Understand the importance of individual and collective accountability as educators and as institutions of higher education to engage in practices for closing equity gaps.
• Reframe inequities as a problem of practice while working collegially and collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and community members to enhance student and institutional success.
