2019-2020 NACCS Voting

We invite you to vote in this election for an At-Large Representative, a Chair-Elect, and a resolution.  We are delighted to have a strong group of candidates interested in stepping forward to serve on the NACCS Board.

A vote yes you approve the recommend changes

A vote no you do not approve the recommended changes

Whereas, the Joto Caucus members believe and support the need to rename and revise the Joto Caucus to better represent the identities and consciousness of its membership;

Whereas, the term “Joto” no longer represents the overall gender and sexuality of the intended membership;

Whereas, that the current written purpose which reads “The Joto Caucus consists of gay, bisexual, and transgendered men. The Caucus is concerned with homophobia, heterosexism and equity and the needs and interests of gay, bisexual, and transgendered men. The Caucus addresses the issues of "sexualities, identities, homophobias, masculinities, and every day Chicano practices." The Caucus membership in good standing at the annual conference elects one representative as Chair for a two-year term” will be revised.

Whereas, changing the name and revising the purpose of the group would provide a more inclusive and welcoming space for all those who do not identify with the gender and sexuality binary systems which includes but is not limited to those who identify with trans, gender non-conforming, questioning and fluid;

Be it further resolved, that the Caucus will incorporate a chair-elect into our leadership to allow for a better transition.

Therefore be it resolved, that the Joto Caucus will be renamed to the Jotería Caucus.

Therefore be it further resolved, that at the 2020 annual conference, the Caucus membership in good standing will elect a member as Chair for a two-year term, and then at the 2021 annual conference members in good standing will elect a member as a Chair-Elect. The Chair-Elect position will be for one-year and then transition into Chair the following year. Thereafter, our yearly elections will be for Chair-elect.

Be it further resolved, the revised written purpose will read “The Jotería Caucus consists of all persons who identify as Jota, Joto, Jotx, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer, Trans, Two-Spirit, Non-Binary, Gender Non-Conforming, Questioning, Fluid and all other identities that fall outside of the gender and sexuality binary systems. The caucus is concerned with providing a network for students, scholars and community members who would like to address issues of gender and sexuality, Jotería Studies and Trans Studies as well as actively challenge homophobia, heterosexism, transphobia as it intersects with the experiences of the Chicanx community.
