The College of Arts & Sciences and The Latina/Latino Studies Program at the University of Missouri – Kansas City

The Latina/Latino Studies Program in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Missouri – Kansas City seeks an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor for its Latina/Latino Studies (LLS) Program. The discipline and research area are open; the successful candidate will possess excellent pedagogical skills teaching a variety of university courses, as well as a record of scholarship and/or service in the field of Latina/o Studies, Afro-Latino Studies, Latin American Studies, or related fields.

This faculty person will teach core LLS courses in our undergraduate minor, including the introductory course, as well as LLS-related courses from their respective discipline. All LLS courses are open to students in all disciplines and some courses can be explicitly cross-listed in other disciplines and can accept graduate students.

The faculty hired is expected to contribute to the program's efforts of enhancing interdisciplinary teaching, research, and service. This faculty is expected to contribute to both strengthen and diversify the current minor and explore opportunities to expand the Latina/Latino Studies with a graduate certificate, a major, and, eventually, a master program. She/he will have her/his tenure home in the discipline of her/his terminal degree.

Minimum Qualifications
Tenure-eligible Advanced Associate Professor or Professor status:

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in a field related to Latina/o Studies
  • A record of rigorous scholarship in the field of Latina/o Studies or related areas
  • Excellence in teaching with experience in a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses
  • Record of and/or commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of Latina/o communities in the U.S.

- Professor candidates must provide evidence of tenure granted or eligibility at the full professor rank in the areas of research, teaching, and service. Candidates should have experience in Latina/o community engagement and/or collaborative programming. Candidates should provide evidence of grant support for research in a field relative to Latina/o Studies. 

- Associate Professor candidates must provide evidence of tenure granted or eligibility at the associate professor rank. Candidates should exhibit continuous advancement in research, teaching, and service directed toward promotion to full professor in the discipline of the terminal degree with a focus on Latina/o Studies. Candidates should provide evidence of grant submissions to support an active research agenda.

Tenure-track Assistant Professor status:

  • Awarded Ph.D. by August 1, 2017 in a field related to Latina/o Studies
  • Demonstrated excellence/evidence in teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Promising record of research and effort in grant submission to support research objectives

Full Time/Part Time
This is a full-time, benefit eligible, tenure-track or tenure eligible 9 month academic appointment to begin Fall semester 2017.

Salary
Negotiable and commensurate with discipline, rank and experience.
