The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Chicana(o)/Latina(o) Studies, De Anza College.

DIVISION PROFILE
Chicana(o)/Latina(o)Studies
is part of the Intercultural/International Studies (IIS) Division at De
Anza College. The IIS Division includes Intercultural Studies,
International Studies, and World Languages. Intercultural Studies
includes African-American Studies, Asian-American Studies,
Chicana(o)/Latina(o)Studies, Native-American Studies, Women's Studies,
LGBTQ Studies, and comparative ethnic studies courses.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
Primary
responsibility of a Chicana(o)/Latina(o)Studies Instructor is to teach a
variety of college-level courses that fulfill either general education
requirements or an Associate of Arts degree in Intercultural Studies.
Provide classroom instruction in Chicana(o)/Latina(o) Studies courses
using student-learning-and-success-centered pedagogies. Primary
teaching assignments may include, Introduction to Chicana(o)/Latina(o)
Studies, Chicana(o)/Latina(o)Culture, Chicana(o)/Latina(o) History, The
Chicana(o)/Latina(o) and the Arts, Chicana(o)/Latina(o) Studies
Literature. Secondary course assignments may include: Race, Ethnicity
and Inequality; Exploring Rce and Ethnic Relations; La Mujer: Latina
Life and Experience; LGBTQ Studies; Intercultural Communication and
other Intercultural/International Studies Division courses.
The
instructor will foster an inclusive, respectful and active community of
learners that critically explores, investigates and engages in
problem-posing analysis of the above topic areas. Instruction will
address globalization, migration, economic, gender, and other forms of
systemic oppression, exploring both historically successful and new
strategies for addressing these challenges in transformative ways.
Standard
duties expected of all faculty include: development and evaluation of
curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, collaborative
participation in department and division meetings, pursuing professional
growth activities (particularly those focused on supporting student
learning and success), and performing other duties consistent with the
role of an instructor and member of a college community. Instructors are
strongly encouraged to participate in campus extra-curricular student
support and success activities, and to serve on college-wide and
District committees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•
Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic,
socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds,
disability, and sexual orientation of community college students,
faculty and staff.
• Master's degree in Chicana(o)/Latina(o) Studies OR Ethnic Studies OR the equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ph.D.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively, collaboratively and across
disciplines with students, faculty, and staff from: diverse linguistic,
academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds;
with diverse physical and learning abilities; and with diverse sexual
orientations, by modeling attitudes and behaviors that foster a climate
of respect, inclusion, and collaboration.

Demonstrated ability to effectively use creative, interactive, and
engaging teaching strategies, including multimedia and cooperative group
structures, to engage the multiple learning modalities of diverse
student populations, which results in student learning and success.
•
A commitment to, and successful experience with, Community and College
advocacy/organizing, especially through student
community-service-learning and civic-engagement experiences.
•
Significant experience in multicultural, multiracial/multiethnic, and
intercultural teaching, research (especially action research), and
community engagement, and, in intercultural communication and alliance
building.
• Ability and
commitment to working collaboratively as a member of a team to advance
the social justice and multicultural missions of the Division and of the
College.
• Ability to
effectively engage students from historically marginalized communities
by scaffolding writing, reading, and critical analysis skills.

HIRING RANGE: $55,073.00-$90,449.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.

Excellent
